Visiting a new church is not easy. Here are some common questions.

What is a Sunday morning like?
Our Sunday worship service begins at 10:00 AM and is designed to be welcoming, thoughtful, and hope-filled. You can expect music, prayer, Scripture, and a message that connects faith with everyday life.

Whether you’ve been in church your whole life or you’re just beginning to explore, you are welcome here.

What Should I Wear?

Come as you are.
You’ll see everything from jeans to dresses. There is no dress code. We care much more that you feel comfortable than whether you look like you wandered out of a church brochure from 1997.

When Should I Arrive?

Arrive a few minutes early if you can.
Coming 10–15 minutes before service gives you time to park, get your children checked in, grab a cup of coffee, and settle in.

If you walk in at 9:59, that’s okay too. No judgment. We’re just glad you’re here.

What About My Kids?

We love families.
We want your children to feel safe, known, and excited to be here. Our kids ministry is designed to help children learn about God in age-appropriate and engaging ways.

If you’re visiting for the first time, our team will help you get checked in and show you where to go. You do not have to figure it all out on your own.

Will I Be Singled Out?

No awkward spotlight moments.
We won’t make you stand up, wave at the room, or wear a neon visitor badge the size of a dinner plate. You can participate as much or as little as you’d like while you get a feel for the community.

What If I’m Not Sure What I Believe?

You are welcome here.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you visit. Church is not a place for people who have mastered life. It is a place for people who are seeking hope, healing, purpose, and community.

You are welcome to come with your faith, your questions, your doubts, and your whole story.

Where Do I Go?

We’ll help you find your way.
When you arrive, our welcome team can help you find the sanctuary, children’s check-in, restrooms, and anything else you need. If you’d like, you can also contact us before Sunday and we’ll help make your first visit simple.

How long is the service?
Our worship service usually lasts about one hour.

Do you offer childcare or children’s programming?
Yes. We have trained nursery workers for our youngest members. We also provide Children's Chapel led by our Kids' Director.

Can I take communion?
At Melissa UMC, all are welcome at Christ’s table.

Do I need to know anyone before I come?
Not at all. Many people come knowing no one.

A Warm Community Where Everyone Belongs

At Melissa UMC, welcome is one of our core values. We define it this way… welcome is loving you for who you are and where you are in your journey. Basically, that’s a fancy way of saying that we are not going to force you to be or believe something that doesn’t come naturally to you. We believe that every person is a person of sacred worth who bears the image of God in the world and we seek to offer a community where all people are welcome.
